What
is a youth council?
A youth council is a group of involved youth working together
to find solutions to unique problems they face.
- It is young people helping others
- It is young people growing in experience and developing leadership
skills
- It is young people having an effective voice on matters concerning
them and
- It is young people having fun
Why have a youth Council?
Youth councils are important to Native youth and the future of
Native America. Youth councils provide a way for Native American
Youth to have an effective voice on issues concerning them.
Young people working together in a youth council ca promote programs
and solutions of their own design and can encourage the involvement
and participation of other motivated youth. Youth who want to
get involved and make a difference, can do so in a meaningful
way through youth councils.
Youth
councils provide numerous opportunities for youth to work with
and for young people and to develop into effective team players
and leaders.
Youth councils also serve as a rallying point and a way of directing
the actions of youth, community members and organizations toward
positive goals.
Best of all, youth councils offer young people the opportunity
to interact together for fun and fellowship.
Young people who are involved with youth councils learn to
accept responsibility. They grow through achievements and in
the knowledge that they are making a real contribution to the
future of Native America.
